MUNSTER LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

May 15th–17th 2026 | UL Arena

A huge congratulations to our fantastic trio who represented us so proudly in UL last weekend!

Day 1

Flying the flag for us on Friday morning was Aimee Barry, now competing at senior level. Aimee took on three challenging events — 100m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle, and 400m Freestyle — pushing herself to her limits and doing the club proud.

Next up were Cian Crockett and Keira Martin. Cian competed in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Individual Medley, while Keira swam the 50m Freestyle. Both swimmers progressed impressively to the finals, finishing in the top ten in Munster in their respective events.

Day 2

Cian and Keira were back in action. Keira competed in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke, while Cian took on the 100m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle. Cian achieved a National consideration time for July, a fantastic accomplishment. Both swimmers once again reached the finals and secured top-ten finishes in Munster.

Day 3 – Final Day

The final day saw one last push from all three swimmers.

Aimee started early with the 200m Backstroke. She gave it her all and came away from the weekend with valuable experience at senior level — a big step up from juniors — and one she embraced brilliantly. We’re looking forward to seeing her compete again in Limerick later this month.

Cian then took to the pool for the 50m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly. He delivered outstanding performances, qualifying for both finals and achieving a National qualifying time in the Butterfly.

Keira followed in the 50m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle. She produced excellent swims and qualified for the 50m Butterfly final.

And this is where the excitement really built!

Keira put in a determined and powerful swim in the final, finishing an incredible 4th in Munster — an outstanding achievement.  What a swim, Keira!

Next up, Cian returned for his finals. In the 50m Freestyle, he powered home to secure 3rd place in Munster — a brilliant result! But he wasn’t finished yet. With barely time to catch his breath, he refuelled and lined up again for the 100m Butterfly. Cian delivered another fantastic performance, finishing 2nd in Munster.

Huge congratulations to Cian and to Aimee and Keira – a great weekend of swimming!

What a remarkable weekend. These swimmers continue to make us proud, time and time again. Qualifying for major galas is no small achievement—and reaching the Munster Championships takes relentless dedication, resilience, and hard work.

Yet, despite their success, they are competing at a clear disadvantage. We are the only club in the country without access to a local 25m public pool. Aimee, Keira and Cian travel to Newtown in Waterford twice a week just to train, alongside additional sessions with the South East Development Squad in New Ross and Enniscorthy—Aimee with the seniors, and Cian with the juniors.

This amounts to between four and six hours of swimming per week, while many of their competitors train double—or even more.

Imagine what they could achieve with equal access.

The need for a local 25m pool in Dungarvan is urgent—not just for competitive swimmers, but for the entire community: for leisure, for learning, for training, and for rehabilitation.

So please—when you see your local councillor, ask the question:

Why is this not a top priority for our local council?
